Walkabouts are part of the movement movement.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that children are active for a minimum of 60 minutes per day. Several recent studies show that an alarming number of school–age children do not meet these minimum goals. Why? Many classrooms include only sedentary work.
Incorporating movement-based lessons in the classroom has many benefits. These lessons:
- Increase comprehension and lesson retention for kinesthetic learners.
- Help children meet the 60-minute activity recommendation while they are learning.
- Help prevent obesity and major health problems later in life.
- Provide a classroom management tool for teachers with energetic students.
